The Expedition of Banu Qurayzah in the Year Five
Translation
✧ The advance of ʿAlī and his informing the Messenger of what he heard from the fools among the Jews Ibn Isḥāq said: The Messenger of God ﷺ sent ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib ahead with his banner to Banū Qurayẓah, and the people hastened to it. When ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib saw the Messenger of God ﷺ approaching, he met him and said: “Go back, O Messenger of God, for God will suffice you against the Jews.” ʿAlī had heard from them evil words about the Messenger of God ﷺ and his wives ؓ, and ʿAlī disliked that the Messenger of God ﷺ should hear that. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “Why do you tell me to go back?” He concealed from him what he had heard from them, and he said: “I think you heard from them something hurtful to me. Go on, for the enemies of God, if they saw me, would not say anything of what you heard.” When the Messenger of God ﷺ dismounted at their fortress, and they were at its top, he called out at the top of his voice to a group of their nobles, until he made them hear, saying: “Answer, O company of Jews, O brothers of apes! God’s disgrace, Mighty and Majestic, has descended upon you.”
