The Expedition of Banu Qurayzah in the Year Five
[ تَلَاحُقُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ بِالرَّسُولِ ] قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: وَتَلَاحَقَ بِهِ النَّاسُ، فَأَتَى رِجَالٌ مِنْهُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِ الْعِشَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ، وَلَمْ يُصَلُّوا الْعَصْرَ، لِقَوْلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ: لَا يُصَلِّيَنَّ أَحَدٌ الْعَصْرَ إلَّا بِبَنِي قُرَيْظَةَ فَشَغَلَهُمْ مَا لَمْ يَكُنْ مِنْهُ بُدٌّ فِي حَرْبِهِمْ، وَأَبَوْا أَنْ يُصَلُّوا، لِقَوْلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ: حَتَّى تَأْتُوا بَنِي قُرَيْظَةَ. فَصَلَّوْا الْعَصْرَ بِهَا، بَعْدَ الْعِشَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ، فَمَا عَابَهُمْ اللَّهُ بِذَلِكَ فِي كِتَابِهِ، وَلَا عَنَّفَهُمْ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ.
Translation
✧ [The Muslims' Catching Up with the Messenger] Ibn Isḥāq said: The people caught up with him, and men among them came after the last evening prayer (al-ʿishāʾ al-ākhirah), having not prayed the afternoon prayer (al-ʿaṣr), because of the statement of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: "None of you should pray the afternoon prayer except at Banū Qurayẓah." What was unavoidable in their war occupied them, and they refused to pray, because of the statement of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: "until you come to Banū Qurayẓah." So they prayed the afternoon prayer there, after the last evening prayer, and Allah did not fault them for that in His Book, nor did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ rebuke them for it.
