The story of Abraham the Friend (peace and blessings be upon him)
Translation
✧ Then the Friend ﷺ returned from the land of Egypt to the land of al-Tayammun, which is the Sacred Land in which he had been, and with him were cattle, slaves, and abundant wealth. Hājar al-Qibṭiyyah al-Miṣriyyah accompanied them. He encamped at al-Sabʿ in the land of Palestine. Abraham had dug at al-Sabʿ a well and a mosque, and the water of the well was a pure, flowing spring. Its people harmed him, so he moved away from them. Then the water dried up, and they followed him asking him to return to them, but he did not do so. He gave them seven she-goats and said: "When you bring them to the water, it will appear until it becomes a pure, flowing spring, so drink from it, and let no menstruating woman draw from it." They went out with the she-goats, and when they stood at the water, it appeared to them. They used to drink from it until a menstruating woman drew from it, and the water returned to what it is today. Abraham stayed between al-Ramlah and Īliyā in a town called Qaṭṭ or Qiṭṭ. Then Lot ﷺ departed with the abundant wealth he had, by the command of the Friend to him in that matter, to the land of al-Ghawr, known as Ghawr Zughar. He encamped at the city of Sodom, which was the mother of those lands at that time. Its people were wicked, disbelieving, and immoral. God Almighty revealed to Abraham the Friend, commanding him to extend his gaze and look north, south, east, and west, and gave him glad tidings that all this land He would make his and his descendants' to the end of time, and that He would multiply his offspring until they became as numerous as the dust of the earth. This glad tiding continued to this community; indeed, it was not completed nor was it greater than in this Muhammadan community. This is supported by the saying of the Messenger of God ﷺ: "God folded the earth for me, and I saw its easts and wests, and the dominion of my community will reach what was folded for me from it." They said: Then a group of tyrants overpowered Lot ﷺ, captured him, took his wealth, and drove off his cattle. When the news reached Abraham the Friend ﷺ, he marched against them with three hundred and eighteen men. He rescued Lot ﷺ, recovered his wealth, killed many of the enemies of God and His Messenger, and defeated them. He pursued them until he reached north of Damascus and encamped outside it near Barzah. I think the Maqām Ibrāhīm attributed to him at Barzah today was so named because it was the place where the Friend's army stood, and God knows best. Then he returned, supported and victorious, to his lands. The kings of the lands of Jerusalem met him, honoring, respecting, and submitting to him. He settled in his lands, may the blessings and peace of God be upon him.
