Budayl, the mercy of one seeking the reward of jihād Steadfast, true in meeting when the people Were many, he spoke words of right guidance And it occurred in some copies of al-ʿUyūn "fawāt al-jihād" with the fāʾ, sister of the qāf, and it is a copyist's error. And this is what Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad b. Jarīr al-Ṭabarī mentioned in his book Dhayl al-Mudhayyal. Ibn Saʿd added al-Ḍaḥḥāk b. ʿAbd ʿAmr b. Masʿūd, and he is the brother of Quṭbah. Abū ʿUmar [al-Nimrī in al-Istīʿāb] added Suhayl b. ʿĀmir b. Saʿd. He said in al-ʿUyūn: "And I think he is Sahl b. ʿĀmir whom we mentioned [although he mentioned that in two biographies, one in the chapter of Sahl and the other in the chapter of Suhayl], and the one about whose killing there is disagreement [in this incident there is disagreement about his presence]. The authors of the maghāzī agree that all were killed except ʿAmr b. Umayyah al-Ḍumayrī, and Kaʿb b. Zayd b. Qays; for he was wounded on the day of Biʾr Maʿūnah and died at al-Khandaq." End. And it is transmitted in al-Iṣābah from ʿUrwah that Suhayl was the paternal uncle of Sahl or his brother. So what Abū ʿUmar al-Nimrī said is correct.
