Translation
✧ The Detachment of al-Mundhir b. 'Amr to Bi'r Ma'unah (the Detachment of the Qur'an Reciters) It took place in the year four of the Hijrah. That was because Abu al-Bara' b. 'Azib gave a gift to the Prophet ﷺ, but he did not accept it and informed him that he does not accept the gift of a polytheist. He offered Islam to him, and he deemed it good but did not embrace Islam. He offered to the Prophet ﷺ to send with him to the people of Najd someone to call them, and he would be a protector for them. So seventy men, called the Qur'an reciters, went out to them, among them al-Mundhir b. 'Amr al-Ansari, the one who hastened to die, al-Harith b. al-Simmah, Haram b. Milhan, 'Amir b. Fuhayrah, and others. When they camped at Bi'r Ma'unah, they sent Haram b. Milhan with the letter of the Prophet ﷺ to 'Amir b. al-Tufayl. When he came to him, he did not look at the letter and attacked Haram and killed him. Then he pursued the tracks of the companions of Haram b. Milhan and killed them all, except that 'Amr b. Umayyah al-Damri and another with him were with the livestock of the people, so they were not struck. Then they came to the place of their companions, and the companion of 'Amr b. Umayyah fought until he was killed. 'Amr b. Umayyah remained and turned back to the Prophet ﷺ. While he was returning, he saw two men from Banu 'Amir who had with them a letter of safety from the Prophet ﷺ, and 'Amr did not know about it. He waited until they slept and killed them in revenge for his companions, not knowing that they were secure. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'You have killed two victims; I will certainly pay their blood money.' 'Amir b. Fuhayrah was killed in this detachment, and his body was raised to the sky and was not seen, and that was a sign. After it, Jabbar b. Sulma embraced Islam. The Prophet ﷺ continued to supplicate against Ri'l, Dhakwan, Banu Lihyan, and Banu 'Usayyah for forty mornings.
