The Expedition of Banū Qaynuqāʿ
فَسَارَ إِلَيْهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِهَذِهِ الْآيَةِ، وَحَمَلَ لِوَاءَهُ حَمْزَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ، وَكَانَ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَبْيَضَ. قَالَ ابْنُ سَعْدٍ: وَلَمْ تَكُنِ الرَّايَاتُ يَوْمَئِذٍ. وَاسْتَخْلَفَ عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ أَبَا لُبَابَةَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْمُنْذِرِ، فَتَحَصَّنُوا فِي حِصْنِهِمْ فَحَاصَرَهُمْ أَشَدَّ الْحِصَارِ، فَأَقَامُوا عَلَى ذَلِكَ خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ لَيْلَةً، حَتَّى قَذَفَ اللَّهُ فِي قُلُوبِهِمُ الرُّعْبَ، فَنَزَلُوا عَلَى حُكْمِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ، عَلَى أَنَّ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَمْوَالَهُمْ، وَأَنَّ لَهُمُ النِّسَاءَ وَالذُّرِّيَّةَ، فَأَمَرَ بِهِمْ فَكُتِّفُوا، وَاسْتَعْمَلَ عَلَى كِتَافِهِمُ الْمُنْذِرَ بْنَ قُدَامَةَ السَّلَمِيَّ، بِفَتْحِ السِّينِ الْمُهْمَلَةِ وَاللَّامِ.
Translation
✧ So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ marched against them because of this verse, and Ḥamzah b. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib carried his banner, which on that day was white. Ibn Saʿd said: And there were no flags on that day. He appointed Abū Lubābah b. ʿAbd al-Mundhir as his deputy over Madinah. They fortified themselves in their stronghold, and he besieged them with the severest siege. They remained in that state for fifteen nights, until Allah cast terror into their hearts, and they descended to the judgment of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, on the condition that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ should have their wealth, and that they should have the women and children. So he gave orders concerning them, and they were bound with cords, and he appointed al-Mundhir b. Qudāmah al-Salamī, with a fatḥah on the unpointed sīn and on the lām, to oversee their binding.
