فَحَدَّثَنَاهُ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْحَافِظُ ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ قَحْطَبَةَ الطَّلْحِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى ثنا الْمُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ثنا أَبِي عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ نَحْوَهُ «سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَلِيٍّ الْحَافِظَ يُوَثِّقُ ابْنَ قَحْطَبَةَ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ أَخْطَأَ فِيهِ فَإِنَّهُ عِنْدَ الْمُعْتَمِرِ عَنْ أَيْمَنَ بْنِ نَابِلٍ كَمَا تَقَدَّمَ ذِكْرُنَا لَهُ وَصَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ أَجْمَعِينَ» أيمن احتج به البخاري ورواه عنه جماعة

✧ From the Prophet ﷺ similar to it. "I heard Abu Ali al-Hafiz authenticate Ibn Qahtabah, except that he erred in it, for in the version of al-Mu'tamir from Ayman b. Nabil it is as we mentioned previously. And may Allah bless Muhammad and all his family." Ayman is relied upon by al-Bukhari, and a group narrated from him.

Saʿd and ʿAmr b. al-Ḥārith differed from them: they narrated it from Abū al-Zubayr from Saʿīd b. Jubayr and Ṭāwūs from Ibn ʿAbbās. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Ḥumayd al-Ruʾāsī and Zakariyyā b. Khālid, a shaykh of the people of Kūfah from whom Qays b. al-Rabīʿ and others narrate, narrated it from Abū al-Zubayr from Ṭāwūs alone from Ibn ʿAbbās. The hadith of Ibn ʿAbbās is closer to the correct version than the hadith of Jābir.
