✧ I met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on one of the roads of Madinah, wearing an izar of cotton with a loose edge. I said: "Peace be upon you, O Muhammad," or "O Messenger of Allah." He said: "'Peace be upon you' is the greeting of the dead; 'peace be upon you' is the greeting of the dead; 'peace be upon you' is the greeting of the dead. Say 'peace be upon you all,' 'peace be upon you all,' 'peace be upon you all'—that is, like this, so say it." Then I asked him about the izar, and he bent his back and grasped the largest part of his calf and said: "Here; if you refuse, then here, above the ankles; if you refuse, then indeed Allah does not love every arrogant boaster."
