✧ My father, Sahl ibn Hunaif, bathed and took off a cloak he had on the day of Hunain when Allah defeated the enemy, while 'Amir ibn Rabi'ah was watching. Sahl was a fair-skinned man, well-built. 'Amir ibn Rabi'ah said to him, "I have never seen anything like today," and he looked at him and admired his beauty when he removed his cloak. He said, "Not even a maiden behind her curtain has a more beautiful body than Sahl ibn Hunaif." Sahl fell ill on the spot and his illness became severe. Someone came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him that Sahl ibn Hunaif was ill and would not be going with him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to him and they told him what had happened with 'Amir. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Why would one of you kill his brother? Why did you not invoke blessing? The evil eye is real. Perform ablution for him." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you sees something that pleases him, let him invoke blessing, for the evil eye is real." These additions in both hadiths are among what they (al-Bukhari and Muslim) did not include. Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his Talkhis.
