✧ And he said, "Whoever sees the man with the black burnous, let him not kill him—meaning Muhammad." Muhammad said to Aisha that day, "O mother, what do you command me?" She said, "I think you should be like the better of the two sons of Adam: restrain your hand." So he restrained his hand, and a man from Banu Asad b. Khuzayma called Talha b. Mudlij, from Banu Munqidh b. Tarif, killed him. It is also said that Shaddad b. Mu'awiya al-Absi killed him, and it is said that rather Isam b. Mis'ar al-Basri killed him, and most reports say this. He is the one who said about killing him [al-bahr al-tawil]: "A disheveled one, standing in prayer with the verses of his Lord, little harm in what people see, a Muslim. I turned the spear to him from beneath his armor, and he fell down slain upon his hands and mouth. You pierced his shirt to him with the spearhead, and I made him fall from the back of a marked horse. You set his back straight in the charge of the cavalry with a spearhead like the forepart of a swift wild ass. He reminds me of Ha-Mim when I thrust him, but would that he had recited Ha-Mim before advancing. No guilt upon him except that he did not follow Ali, and whoever does not follow the truth wrongs." He said: Ali said when he saw him slain, "His head brought him to this fall."
