✧ Abd al-Rahman b. Awf fainted during his illness, a faint in which they thought he had passed away, until they rose from his side, covered him with a cloth, and Umm Kulthum bt. Uqba, his wife, went out to the mosque to seek help in what she was commanded of patience and prayer. They waited a while while he was in the faint; then he regained consciousness. The first thing he said was to say takbir, so the people of the house and those near them said takbir. Then he said to them, "Did I faint just now?" They said, "Yes." He said, "You have spoken the truth." Then he said, "Two men took me away in my faint, one of them stern and rough. They said, 'Come, let us take you to judgment before the Almighty, the All-Knowing.' Then [one] said, 'Return him, for he is among those for whom Allah wrote happiness and forgiveness in their mothers' wombs, and his sons will enjoy him as long as Allah wills.'" He lived after that for a month, then died, and Uthman led the pilgrimage that year.
