✧ When the Prophet ﷺ passed away and they appointed Abu Bakr as successor, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had sent Mu'adh to Yemen. Abu Bakr appointed 'Umar over the pilgrimage season, and he met Mu'adh in Makkah, and with him were slaves. He said: "What are these?" He said: "These were gifted to me, and these to Abu Bakr." 'Umar said to him: "I think you should bring them to Abu Bakr." He said: "The next day he met him and said: 'O Ibn al-Khattab, last night I saw myself leaping into the Fire while you were holding me by my waistband, and I think I will only obey you.'" He said: "So he brought them to Abu Bakr and said: 'These were gifted to me, and these to you.' He said: 'We have accepted your gift.' Then Mu'adh went out to pray, and there they were praying behind him. Mu'adh said: 'For whom do you pray?' They said: 'For Allah, Exalted.' He said: 'Then you are for Him,' and he freed them."
