✧ When Allah revealed to His Messenger ﷺ, 'Do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet' (Quran 49:2), and the verse, 'And Allah does not love every arrogant boaster' (Quran 57:23), my father sat in his house weeping. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ missed him and asked about his situation. He said, 'I am a man with a loud voice, and I fear that my deeds have become worthless.' He said, 'Rather, you will live praiseworthy, die as a martyr, and Allah will admit you to Paradise in peace.' When it was the Day of al-Yamama with Khalid ibn al-Walid, he was martyred. A man among the Muslims saw him in a dream, and he said, 'When I was killed, a man among the Muslims took my coat of mail and hid it at the far end of the army. It is with him, and he has placed a cooking pot over the coat of mail and put a saddle on the pot. Go to the commander and inform him, and beware of saying this is a dream and thus wasting it. When you come to Madinah, go and tell the Caliph of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that I owe such-and-such a debt, and that my slave so-and-so is free. Beware of saying this is a dream and thus wasting it.' He said, 'So he went to him and informed him of the news, and he found the matter as he had described. He went to Abu Bakr and informed him, and he carried out his bequest. We know of no one after his death whose bequest was carried out except Thabit ibn Qays ibn Shammas.' Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in the Talkhis.
