✧ He informed him that he heard Abu Hurayrah say: We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one day when a fisherman came to him and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, we go out to sea seeking fish. One of us carries a water skin with him, hoping to catch fish nearby. Sometimes he finds it so, and sometimes he does not find fish until he reaches a place in the sea he did not think he would reach. Perhaps he experiences a wet dream or needs to perform ablution. If he bathes or performs ablution with this [fresh] water, one of us may perish from thirst. Do you think it is permissible to bathe from seawater or perform ablution with it when we fear that?' It was claimed that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Bathe from it and perform ablution with it, for it is the pure one; its water is purifying, and its dead are lawful.' Muslim used al-Julah, Abu Kathir, as evidence, and Yahya b. Sa'id al-Ansari and Yazid b. Muhammad al-Qurashi concurred with Sa'id b. Salamah al-Makhzumi in narrating this hadith, but there was disagreement about it.
