✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "Call Hamza." He was the closest of them to the polytheists, by the owner of the red camel. Hamza said to me, "That is Utba b. Rabi'a, and he is forbidding fighting, saying, 'O people, I see a people you will not reach, and there is good among you. O people, bind it to me today and say that Utba b. Rabi'a has become cowardly, for you know I am not the most cowardly of you.' Abu Jahl heard that and said, 'You say this? If it were anyone else...' He said, 'You are filled with terror.' He said, 'Do you mean me, O yellowed one?' The narrator said: Then Utba, his brother Shayba, and his son al-Walid came forward and said, 'Who will duel?' Some youths from the Ansar went out, but Utba said, 'We do not want these; rather, who will duel us from the uncles of Banu Abd al-Muttalib?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Rise, O Hamza; rise, O Ubayda; rise, O Ali.' So Hamza faced Utba, Ubayda faced Shayba, and Ali faced al-Walid. Hamza killed Utba, Ali killed al-Walid, and Ubayda killed Shayba, while Shayba struck Ubayda's leg and cut it off, and Hamza and Ali rescued him until he died at al-Safra'. [Sahih according to the conditions of the two Shaykhs, but they did not include it.] They did not include it because of Haritha, and Ibn al-Madini deemed him unreliable.
