✧ I saw Talhah, and the most beloved of gatherings to him was the emptiest of them, and he was striking his beard against his chest. He said, so I said to him, 'O Abu Muhammad, I see you, and the most beloved of gatherings to you is the emptiest of them, while you are striking your beard against your chest. If you dislike this affair, then leave it, for no one compels you to it.' He said, 'O Alqamah b. Waqqas, do not blame me. Yesterday we were one hand against those besides us, but today we have become two mountains of iron, one of us crawling toward the other.' Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in al-Talkhis.
