✧ He said to a man sitting near him while he was narrating to his companions: Come close to me. The man said to him: May Allah preserve you. By Allah, I do not know how to ask you as these people have asked. He said: Come close to me, and I will tell you about the prophets mentioned in the Book of Allah. I tell you about Adam: he was a servant, a farmer. I tell you about Nuh: he was a servant, a carpenter. I tell you about Idris: he was a servant, a tailor. I tell you about Dawud: he was a servant, a maker of armor. I tell you about Musa: he was a servant, a shepherd. I tell you about Ibrahim: he was a servant, a farmer. I tell you about Salih: he was a servant, a merchant. I tell you about Sulayman: he was a servant to whom Allah gave kingship. He used to fast six days at the beginning of the month, three in the middle, and three at the end. He had nine hundred concubines and three hundred free wives. I tell you about the son of the virgin, the pure, 'Isa son of Maryam: he would not store anything for tomorrow and would say: The One who gave me my morning meal will give me my evening meal, and the One who gave me my evening meal will give me my morning meal. He worshipped Allah all night, praying until the sun rose, and during the day he was a wanderer. He fasted all time and stood in prayer all night. I tell you about the chosen Prophet ﷺ: he used to tend the sheep of his household in Ajyad. He used to fast, and we would say he does not break his fast; and he would break his fast, and we would say he does not fast—but all of it: we never saw him fasting. He fasted three days of every month. He was the gentlest of people in disposition, the best in conduct, and the most knowledgeable. And I inform you about Hawwa': she used to spin hair and transform it with her hands, and she would clothe herself and her children with it. And Maryam bt. 'Imran used to do that.
