✧ Allah announced the death of Aaron to Moses when Allah willed to take him. When He announced it to him, he grieved. When he was taken, he became extremely distressed and wept for a long time. When he returned to that, Allah, Exalted be He, turned to him consoling and admonishing him, saying to him: "O Moses, it was not befitting for you to long for the loss of anything with Me, nor to find comfort in other than Me, nor to bind your knees except to Me, nor that this distress of yours now over Aaron should be except for Me. How can you feel lonely for any of the things while you hear My words? Or how can you long for the loss of any worldly thing after I have chosen you for My messages and My speech?" And he mentioned a long intimate conversation. He said: Aaron was taken while Moses was one hundred and seventeen years old, three years before the end of the wandering. Aaron was taken at one hundred and twenty years old; Moses remained after him three years until he completed one hundred and twenty years, while the Children of Israel were divided concerning him, sometimes gathering around him and other times separating.
