أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْعَدْلُ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ طَلْحَةَ ثنا أَسْبَاطُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّدِّيُّ عَنْ مُرَّةَ الْهَمْدَانِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ
أَنَّهُ قَالَ إِنَّ أَصْحَابَ الْعِجْلِ قَالُوا هطا سقماثا أزبه مزبا وَهِيَ بِالْعَرَبِيَّةِ حِنْطَةٌ حَمْرَاءُ قَوِيَّةٌ فِيهَا شَعْرَةٌ سَوْدَاءُ فَذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُ ﷻ {فَبَدَّلَ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا قَوْلًا غَيْرَ الَّذِي قِيلَ لَهُمْ} [البقرة 59] فَلَمَّا أَبَوْا أَنْ يَسْجُدُوا قَالَ أَمَرَ اللَّهُ الْجَبَلَ أَنْ يَقَعَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَنَظَرُوا إِلَيْهِ قَدْ غَشِيَهُمْ فَسَقَطُوا سُجَّدًا عَلَى شِقٍّ وَنَظَرُوا بِالشِّقِّ الْآخَرِ فَرَحِمَهُمُ اللَّهُ فَكَشَفَهُ عَنْهُمْ فَقَالُوا مَا سَجْدَةٌ أَحَبَّ إِلَى اللَّهِ تَعَالَى مِنْ سَجْدَةٍ كَشَفَ بِهَا الْعَذَابَ عَنْكُمْ فَهُمْ يَسْجُدُونَ لِذَلِكَ عَلَى شِقٍّ فَذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُ ﷻ {وَإِذْ نَتَقْنَا الْجَبَلَ فَوْقَهُمْ كَأَنَّهُ ظُلَّةٌ} [الأعراف 171]

✧ He said: The companions of the calf said, 'Hitta samqatha azabba mazabba,' which in Arabic means 'red, strong wheat containing a black hair.' That is the saying of Him, Exalted is He: {Then those who did wrong changed the word to something other than what was said to them} [Al-Baqarah 59]. When they refused to prostrate, Allah commanded the mountain to fall upon them. They looked at it and saw it covering them, so they fell down prostrating on one side and looked with the other side. Then Allah had mercy on them and lifted it from them. They said, 'No prostration is more beloved to Allah, Exalted is He, than the prostration by which He averted punishment from you.' So they prostrate on one side for that reason. That is the saying of Him, Exalted is He: {And when We raised the mountain above them as if it were a canopy} [Al-A'raf 171].
