al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim) 2524

Translation

✧ A brother of the people of Syria said to him, 'O shaykh, tell us a hadith you heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' He said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "The first of people to be judged on the Day of Resurrection is a man who was martyred. He will be brought, and He will make him recognize His blessings, and he will recognize them." He will say, "What did you do therein?" He will say, "I fought for You until I was killed." He will say, "You lie, but you fought so that it would be said, 'He is brave,' and it was said." Then he will be ordered, and he will be dragged on his face until he is thrown into the Fire. And a man who learned knowledge and taught it, and recited the Qur'an. He will be brought, and He will make him recognize His blessings upon him, and he will recognize them. He will say, "What did you do therein?" He will say, "I learned knowledge for You and taught it, and I recited the Qur'an for You." He will say, "You lie, but you learned knowledge so that it would be said, 'He is a scholar,' and you recited the Qur'an so that it would be said, 'He is a reciter,' and it was said." Then he will be ordered, and he will be dragged on his face until he is thrown into the Fire. And a man to whom Allah gave ample wealth and gave him of all kinds of property. He will be brought, and He will make him recognize His blessings, and he will recognize them. He will say, "What did you do therein?" He will say, "I have not left any way in which You love that wealth be spent without spending in it." He will say, "You lie, but you did it so that it would be said, 'He is generous,' and it was said." Then he will be ordered, and he will be dragged on his face until he is thrown into the Fire.'
