أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الزَّاهِدُ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْقَاضِي ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ نِسْطَاسٍ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ
بَيْنَمَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِالرَّوْحَاءِ إِذْ هَبَطَ عَلَيْهِمْ أَعْرَابِيٌّ مِنْ سَرِفَ فَقَالَ مَنِ الْقَوْمُ أَيْنَ تُرِيدُونَ؟ قِيلَ بَدْرًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ مَا لِي أَرَاكُمْ بَذَّةً هَيْئَتُكُمْ قَلِيلًا سِلَاحُكُمْ؟ قَالُوا نَنْتَظِرُ إِحْدَى الْحُسْنَيَيْنِ إِمَّا أَنْ نُقْتَلَ فَالْجَنَّةُ وَإِمَّا أَنْ نَغْلِبَ فَيَجْمَعَ اللَّهُ لَنَا الظَّفَرَ وَالْجَنَّةَ قَالَ أَيْنَ نَبِيُّكُمْ؟ قَالُوا هَا هُوَ ذَا فَقَالَ لَهُ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ لَيْسَتْ لِي مَصْلَحَةٌ آخُذُ مَصْلَحَتِي ثُمَّ أَلْحَقُ قَالَ «اذْهَبْ إِلَى أَهْلِكَ فَخُذْ مَصْلَحَتَكَ» فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَؤُمُّ بَدْرًا وَخَرَجَ الرَّجُلُ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ حَتَّى فَرَغَ مِنْ حَاجَتِهِ ثُمَّ لَحِقَ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِبَدْرٍ وَهُوَ يَصُفُّ النَّاسَ لِلْقِتَالِ فِي تَعْبِئَتِهِمْ فَدَخَلَ فِي الصَّفِّ مَعَهُمْ فَاقْتَتَلَ النَّاسُ فَكَانَ فِيمَنِ اسْتَشْهَدَهُ اللَّهُ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بَعْدَ أَنْ هَزَمَ اللَّهُ الْمُشْرِكِينَ وَأَظْفَرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَمَرَّ بَيْنَ ظَهْرَانَيِ الشُّهَدَاءِ وَعُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ مَعَهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «هَا يَا عُمَرُ إِنَّكَ تُحِبُّ الْحَدِيثَ وَإِنَّ لِلشُّهَدَاءِ سَادَةً وَأَشْرَافًا وَمُلُوكًا وَإِنَّ هَذَا يَا عُمَرُ مِنْهُمْ»

✧ While the Prophet ﷺ was at al-Rawḥāʾ, a bedouin from Sarif descended upon them and said: “Who are the people, and where are you heading?” They said: “To Badr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” He said: “Why do I see you with shabby appearance and little weaponry?” They said: “We await one of the two best outcomes: either we are killed and attain Paradise, or we prevail and Allah combines for us victory and Paradise.” He said: “Where is your Prophet?” They said: “Here he is.” So he said to him: “O Prophet of Allah, I have some business; I will take care of my business and then catch up.” He said: “Go to your family and take care of your business.” So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out heading for Badr, and the man went to his family until he finished his errand, then he caught up with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Badr while he was arranging the people for battle in their ranks. He entered the ranks with them, and the people fought, and he was among those whom Allah granted martyrdom. After Allah defeated the polytheists and gave victory to the believers, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ walked among the martyrs with ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb at his side and said: “Here, O ʿUmar, you love to narrate accounts. Indeed the martyrs have masters, nobles, and kings, and this one, O ʿUmar, is among them.”
