✧ When Umar arrived in Syria, the troops met him while he was wearing a lower garment, two leather socks, and a turban, and he was holding the head of his camel, wading through the water. Someone said to him, “O Commander of the Believers, the troops and the commanders of Syria meet you while you are in this state?” Umar said, “We are a people whom Allah has honored through Islam, so we will never seek honor through anything else.” Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in al-Talkhis.
