7. ✧ 'Abd al-Rahman b. 'Awf ᴿᴬ

    " أَنَّ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَوْفٍ لَمَّا صَلَّى وَجَاءَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَذَهَبَ يَتَأَخَّرُ، فَأَوْمَأَ إِلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: كَمَا أَنْتَ، فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِصَلَاةِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ

    ✧ When 'Abd al-Rahman b. 'Awf had prayed and the Prophet ﷺ came, he began to step back, but the Prophet ﷺ gestured to him: stay as you are. So the Messenger of God ﷺ prayed following the prayer of 'Abd al-Rahman.

    ذَكَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ رَمَضَانَ، فَقَالَ: " شَهْرٌ فَرَضَ اللهُ عَلَيْكُمْ صِيَامَهُ، وَسَنَنْتُ أَنَا قِيَامَهُ، فَمَنْ صَامَهُ وَقَامَهُ إِيمَانًا وَاحْتِسَابًا خَرَجَ مِنْ ذُنُوبِهِ كَيَوْمِ وَلَدَتْهُ أُمُّهُ

    ✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ mentioned Ramadan and said: "It is a month whose fasting God has made obligatory upon you, and I have established its night prayer as a sunnah. Whoever fasts it and prays it at night out of faith and seeking reward will emerge from his sins as on the day his mother bore him."

    " لَمْ يَأْخُذْ عُمَرُ الْجِزْيَةَ مِنَ الْمَجُوسِ، حَتَّى شَهِدَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ ؓ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَخَذَهَا مِنْ مَجُوسِ هَجَرَ

    ✧ 'Umar did not take the jizyah from the Magians until 'Abd al-Rahman b. 'Awf ؓ testified that the Prophet ﷺ took it from the Magians of Hajar.

    سَمِعْتُ مِنْ رَجُلٍ حَدِيثًا فَأَعْجَبَنِي فَقُلْتُ: اكْتُبْهُ، فَأَتَانِي بِهِ مَكْتُوبًا مُزَبَّرًا، قَالَ: دَخَلَ عَلِيٌّ وَالْعَبَّاسُ عَلَى عُمَرَ، وَعِنْدَهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ، وَالزُّبَيْرُ بْنُ الْعَوَّامِ، وَسَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ، فَقَالَ: أَنْشُدُكُمْ بِاللهِ، أَوَلَمْ تَسْمَعُوا، أَوَلَمْ تَعْلَمُوا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: كُلُّ مَالِ النَّبِيِّ صَدَقَةٌ إِلَّا مَا أَطْعَمَهُ أَهْلَهُ وَكَسَاهُمْ، إِنَّا لَا نُورَثُ، قَالُوا: بَلَى

    ✧ I heard from a man a hadith that pleased me, so I said: write it down. He brought it to me written down, inscribed. He said: 'Ali and al-'Abbas entered upon 'Umar, and with him were 'Abd al-Rahman b. 'Awf, al-Zubayr b. al-'Awwam, and Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas. He said: I adjure you by God—did you not hear, or did you not know, that the Messenger of God ﷺ said: "All the wealth of the Prophet is charity except what he feeds his family and clothes them with. We are not inherited from."? They said: Yes indeed.
