✧ I saw the Prophet ﷺ laying the foundations of the Mosque of Qubaʾ. Sometimes I saw him carrying a huge stone and pressing it against his belly. We would come to take it from him, but he would say, “Leave it and carry another one.” And Jibril ﷺ was directing him toward the Kaʿbah.

✧ I looked at the Messenger of God ﷺ when he arrived and alighted and laid the foundations of this mosque, the Mosque of Qubaʾ. I saw him taking a stone or a rock until the stone pressed against him, and I saw the whiteness of the dust on his belly and navel. A man from among his companions would come and say, “May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of God, give it to me and let me spare you.” He would say, “No, take a stone like it,” until he had laid its foundations. And he said, “Jibril ﷺ is the one directing it toward the Kaʿbah.” She said: It was said that it was the mosque most accurately oriented toward the qiblah.
