✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ died on Monday, and he was kept for the rest of that day, its night, and the next day until he was buried on Wednesday night. They said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has not died, but his soul was taken up as the soul of Musa was taken up." 'Umar stood and said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has not died, but his soul was taken up as the soul of Musa was taken up. By Allah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ will not die until he cuts off the hands and tongues of some people." 'Umar kept speaking until foam gathered at the corners of his mouth from his threats and words. Then al-'Abbas stood and said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has died, and he is a human being, and he will decompose as human beings decompose. O people, bury your companion, for he is too noble to Allah for Him to cause him to die twice. Would He cause one of you to die once and cause him to die twice, while he is nobler to Allah than that? O people, bury your companion. If it is as you say, it is not difficult for Allah to remove the soil from over him. By Allah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not die until he left the way as a clear path: he made lawful what is lawful, forbade what is forbidden, married, divorced, waged war, and made peace. No shepherd of sheep, whose owner follows with them over the mountain tops, striking the thorny trees with his stick and plastering their watering trough with his hand, was more tireless or more diligent than the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was among you. O people, bury your companion." He said: Umm Ayman began to weep, and it was said to her, "O Umm Ayman, are you weeping for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" She said, "By Allah, I am not weeping for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ because I do not know that he has gone to what is better for him than this world, but I am weeping because the news from heaven has ceased." Hammad said: Tears choked Ayyub when he reached this point.
