It was read to Abū Muḥammad b. Yaḥyā b. Ṣāʿid, and it was said to him: And in your book, from Ḥabīb b. Bishr al-Azdī: Saʿīd b. Sufyān al-Jaḥdarī narrated to us: Ṣakhr b. Juwayriyah narrated to us, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, that ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb (may God be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of God, I have acquired some wealth, and it is precious, and I wished to give it in charity." He said: "Give its principal in charity: it is not to be sold, nor given away, nor inherited, but its fruit is to be spent." He said: So he gave it in charity, and I made it a charity. It was written down on that basis: for the cause of God, for the guest, the wayfarer, the poor, and the near of kin. There is no blame on whoever manages it if he eats from it in a reasonable manner and feeds a friend, without making wealth from it. Chapter on endowing undivided property.
