✧ The last two men to come out of the Fire: God, Blessed and Exalted, says to one of them: O son of Adam, what have you prepared for this day? Have you ever done good? Have you hoped in Me or feared Me? He says: No, O Lord. So he is ordered to the Fire, and he is the most regretful of the people of the Fire. He says to the other: O son of Adam, what have you prepared for this day? Have you done any good? He says: No, except that I hoped in You. So a tree is raised for him, and he says: O Lord, seat me under this tree so I may shade myself with its shade, eat of its fruit, and drink of its water. He promises Him not to ask for anything but it. So he sits, or He seats him under it. Then another tree is raised for him that is better than the first, and he says: O Lord, bring me near this tree; I will not ask You for anything else; I will shade myself with its shade and drink of its water. He says: O son of Adam, did you not promise Me that you would not ask Me for anything but it? He says: Yes, O Lord, but this one. He promises Him not to ask for anything else, and He brings him near it. Then a tree is raised for him at the gate of Paradise that is better than the first two, and he says: This one, bring me near under it. He promises Him not to ask for anything else, and He brings him near it. He hears the voices of the people of Paradise, and he cannot restrain himself, so he says: O Lord, admit me to Paradise. I think he said: So he enters Paradise. Then God, Blessed and Exalted, says: Ask and wish. He asks and wishes for the amount of three days — I think he said: of the days of this world — and he wishes. When he finishes, He says: You will have what you asked for. Abu Hurayrah said: And the like of it with him. Abu Saʿid said: And ten times its like with him.
