machine translationThis hadith was narrated by Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī Laylā, from al-Ḥakam, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī Laylā, from ʿAlī, from the Prophet ﷺ. Shuʿbah is a better memorizer than Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, and we do not know that ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī Laylā narrated from Samurah anything other than this hadith.

machine translationAl-Ḥakam narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Al-Aʿmash narrated it from al-Ḥakam, from Ibn Abī Laylā, from ʿAlī, and Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī Laylā followed him in narrating it from al-Ḥakam. ʿUbaydullāh b. Mūsā followed them both, from Shuʿbah, from al-Ḥakam, and he traced it back to ʿAlī. Others narrate it from al-Ḥakam, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī Laylā, from Samurah b. Jundab, from the Prophet ﷺ.
