حَدَّثَنَا بِهِ حَاتِمُ بْنُ اللَّيْثِ، قَالَ: نَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي الْعَبَّاسِ، قَالَ: نَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَبِي يَزِيدَ الْأَصَمُّ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ؓ قَالَ:
لَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ أَبُو طَالِبٍ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ، فَقُلْتُ: إِنَّ هَذَا الشَّيْخَ قَدْ مَاتَ، فَقَالَ: اذْهَبْ فَوَارِهِ، وَلَا تُحْدِثَنَّ شَيْئًا، قَالَ: فَوَارَيْتُهُ ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ، فَقَالَ: " اذْهَبْ فَاغْتَسِلْ، وَلَا تُحْدِثَنَّ حَتَّى تَأْتِيَنِي "، فَاغْتَسَلْتُ ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ، فَدَعَا لِي بِدَعَوَاتٍ مَا يَسُرُّنِي أَنَّ لِيَ بِهَا حُمْرَ النَّعَمِ وَسُودَهَا.

✧ When Abu Talib died, I went to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "This old man has died." He said, "Go and bury him, and do not do anything until you come to me." He said: So I buried him and then went to him. He said, "Go and perform ghusl, and do not do anything until you come to me." So I performed ghusl and then went to him, and he made supplications for me that would please me more than having red camels and black ones.

Abī al-ʿAbbās narrated it from al-Ḥasan b. Yazīd b. al-Aṣamm, from al-Suddī, from Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Sulamī, from ʿAlī. Ḥātim b. al-Layth narrated it from Ibrāhīm b. Abī al-ʿAbbās, from al-Ḥasan b. Yazīd, from al-Suddī, from Saʿd b. ʿUbaydah, from Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from ʿAlī, adding Saʿd b. ʿUbaydah in it. This is an error (wahm), and the first version is more correct.
