✧ The Jews came to the Prophet ﷺ with two Jewish men who had committed adultery. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'What do you find in your Book?' They said: 'They are flogged.' He said: 'You have lied; in it is stoning. Bring the Torah and recite it if you are truthful.' Ibn Sallam said: 'We find in it stoning.' They brought the Torah. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Bring me a man from among you.' They brought him a young one-eyed man called Ibn Suriya. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Are you the most learned of them?' He said: 'They say that.' He said: 'Then recite.' He recited until he came to the place of stoning, and he placed his hand over it, meaning the verse of stoning. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Raise your hand.' The Jew said: 'O Muhammad, in it is stoning.' He said: 'So he ordered the two to be stoned.' Ibn 'Umar said: 'It is as if I can see him shielding her from the stones with his own body.'
