✧ The Prophet ﷺ used to lead us in the noon prayer when the sun had passed its zenith, and if a seed were placed on the hot ground it would have been cooked. Then he would lengthen the first rak'ah, remaining standing and reciting until we heard the sound of the people's sandals [shifting]. Then he would bow, then stand for the second rak'ah, which was shorter than the first. Then he would make the third rak'ah shorter than the second, and the fourth shorter than the third. Then he would pray the afternoon prayer while the sun was still white and clear, enough time for a traveler to travel two or three farsakhs. He would lengthen the first rak'ah of the afternoon prayer and make the second shorter than the first. He would pray the sunset prayer when a person would say, 'Has the sun set or not?' He would lengthen the first rak'ah of the sunset prayer and make the second shorter than the first, and the third shorter than the second. And he would delay the last evening prayer a little.
