When it is the day of Friday, the devils go out in the morning with their banners to the markets. They take hold of the people with hindrances, remind them of their needs, and discourage them from the Friday prayer. And the angels go out in the morning with their banners to the mosques, writing down for each man the hour in which he came: so-and-so came in one hour, so-and-so in two hours. If a man sits in a place in which he is able to listen and to see, and he stays silent and does not speak idly, he will have two shares (kiflān) of reward. If he sits in a place farther away, stays silent and does not speak idly, he will have one share (kifl) of reward. And whoever sits in a place in which he is able to listen and to see, but speaks idly and does not stay silent, he will have two shares, or he said one share, of sin. And whoever says to his brother on the day of Friday, 'Hush,' has spoken idly, and whoever speaks idly has nothing from his Friday prayer. Then at the end of that he says: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying that.
