He was in charge of Īliyā᾽, and ʿUbādah was late for the dawn prayer, so Abū Nuʿaym called the iqāmah for the prayer, and he was the first to call the adhān in Bayt al-Maqdis. I came with ʿUbādah until he stood in the row with the people, while Abū Nuʿaym was reciting the Qur᾽an aloud. ʿUbādah recited Umm al-Qur᾽an (al-Fātiḥah) until I understood it from him. When he finished, I said: "I heard you reciting Umm al-Qur᾽an." He said: "Yes. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in one of the prayers in which the recitation is made aloud, and he said: 'None of you should recite when I recite aloud, except with Umm al-Qur᾽an.'"
