ʿAbdullāh b. ʿĀmir used to address the people wearing thin garments, with his hair combed. He said: One day he prayed and then went inside. He said: And Abū Bakrah was sitting beside the pulpit. Mirdās Abū Bilāl said: Do you not see the leader of the people and their master, wearing thin garments and imitating the wicked? Abū Bakrah heard him and said to his son al-Uṣayliʿ: Call Abū Bilāl for me. So he called him for him, and Abū Bakrah said: I have just heard what you said about the leader, and I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Whoever honors the authority of Allah, Allah will honor him, and whoever humiliates the authority of Allah, Allah will humiliate him."
