حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ قَالَ

كَانَ مَرْوَانُ يَسْتَعْمِلُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ قَالَ: فَكَانَ إِذَا رَأَى إِنْسَانًا يَجُرُّ إِزَارَهُ ضَرَبَ بِرِجْلِهِ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: قَدْ جَاءَ الْأَمِيرُ، قَدْ جَاءَ الْأَمِيرُ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: قَالَ أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ ﷺ: لَا يَنْظُرُ اللهُ إِلَى مَنْ جَرَّ إِزَارَهُ بَطَرًا.

Translation

✧ Marwan used to appoint Abu Hurayrah over Madinah. He said: When he saw a man dragging his lower garment, he would strike with his foot and then say: 'The commander has come, the commander has come.' Then he would say: 'Abu al-Qasim ﷺ said: "Allah does not look at one who drags his lower garment out of arrogance."
