✧ A man asked Abu Musa al-Ash'ari about a woman who left behind her daughter, her son's daughter, and her sister. He said: 'Half for the daughter, and for the sister half.' And he said: 'Go to Ibn Mas'ud, for he will agree with me.' He said: They came to Ibn Mas'ud and told him about Abu Musa's statement. He said: 'Then I would have gone astray and I am not of the rightly guided. I will judge in it by the judgment of the Messenger of God ﷺ.' Shu'bah said: I found this phrase written: I will judge in it by the judgment of the Messenger of God ﷺ: 'For the daughter half, for the son's daughter one sixth as completion of two thirds, and what remains is for the sister.' They came to Abu Musa and told him about Ibn Mas'ud's statement. Abu Musa said: 'Do not ask me about anything as long as this scholar is among you.'
