✧ I did not hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ permit any kind of lying except in three cases: a man saying something by which he intends reconciliation, a man saying something in war, and a man talking to his wife, or a woman talking to her husband.

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationAl-Zubaydī, Ṣāliḥ b. Kaysān, Shuʿayb b. Abī Ḥamzah and al-Jarrāḥ b. al-Minhāl narrated it from al-Zuhrī with this chain of transmission, and he added in it: He said: and he did not permit any of what people say is a lie except in three cases. It is said that this is not from the hadith of the Prophet ﷺ, but rather it is from the words of al-Zuhrī, and whoever said in it "she said: and he did not permit" has made an error; rather it is "he said," meaning al-Zuhrī.
