✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ entered upon me one day and placed his garment between his thighs. Abū Bakr came asking permission, and he granted him permission while the Messenger of God ﷺ was in that state. Then ʿUmar came asking permission, and he granted him permission while the Messenger of God ﷺ was in that state. Some people from among his companions came and he granted them permission. ʿAlī came asking permission, and he granted him permission while the Messenger of God ﷺ was in that state. Then ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān came asking permission, so he wrapped himself in his garment, then granted him permission. They talked for a while, then left. I said: 'O Messenger of God, Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, ʿAlī, and some of your companions entered upon you while you were in that state and you did not move, but when ʿUthmān entered you wrapped yourself in your garment!' He said: 'Should I not feel shy before one before whom the angels feel shy?'
