✧ One day the Messenger of God ﷺ had placed a garment between his thighs. Abū Bakr came and asked permission, and he granted him permission while he was in that state. Then ʿUmar came with a similar account, then ʿAlī, then some people from among his companions, while the Prophet ﷺ was still in that state. Then ʿUthmān came and asked permission, and he granted him permission, but he took his garment and wrapped himself in it. They spoke, then left. I said: 'O Messenger of God, Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, ʿAlī, and the rest of your companions came while you were in that state, but when ʿUthmān came you wrapped yourself in your garment!' He said: 'Should I not feel shy before one before whom the angels feel shy?'
