Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us with a staff, and in the mosque there were hanging clusters of dates, among which was a cluster containing bad dates. He poked the cluster with the staff in his hand and said, 'If the owner of this charity wished, he would have given in charity better than it. Indeed, the owner of this charity will eat the bad dates on the Day of Resurrection.' Then he turned to us and said, 'By Allah, O people of Madinah, you will surely leave it for forty years to the wild creatures.' He said, 'I said, Allah knows best.' He said, 'Meaning the birds and beasts.' He said, 'We used to say that this is what the non-Arabs call the cranes.'
