Translation

✧ He was with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey. He traveled with them all their day without loosening a knot, and their whole night without loosening a knot except for prayer, until they dismounted in the middle of the night. He said, 'A man watched the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he put down his saddle.' He said, 'I reached him and looked, but I saw no one except asleep, and no camel except with its neck resting, asleep.' He said, 'I stretched out and looked where the Prophet ﷺ put his saddle, but I did not find him in his place. So I went out stepping over the saddles until I came out to the people, then I went on my way in the darkness of the night and heard a bell. I reached it and there was Mu'adh b. Jabal and al-Ash'ari. I reached them and said, 'Where is the Messenger of Allah?' There was a sound like the sound of a mill. I said, 'It seems the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is near this sound.' They said, 'Sit, be quiet.' After a little while, he came forward until he reached us. We stood up to him and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, we were alarmed when we did not see you and we followed your trace.' He said, 'A messenger from my Lord came to me and gave me the choice between half of my Ummah entering Paradise and intercession. I chose intercession.' We said, 'We adjure you by Allah and companionship to make us among the people of your intercession.' He said, 'You are among them.' Then we went on, and one or two men would come and inform them of what he told us, and they adjured him by Allah and companionship to make them among the people of his intercession, and he would say, 'Indeed you are among them,' until the people all came and crowded upon him and said, 'Make us among them.' He said, 'I make you witnesses that it is for whoever dies from my Ummah not associating anything with Allah.'
