✧ We used to prevent our unmarried women from going out. A woman arrived and stayed at the palace of Banu Khalaf, and she narrated that her sister was married to a man from the companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ who had gone on twelve raids with the Messenger of God ﷺ. Her sister said: I went on six raids with him. She said: We used to treat the wounded and care for the sick. Her sister asked the Messenger of God ﷺ, saying: Is there any harm for one of us if she does not have a jilbab and does not go out? He said: Let her companion clothe her from her jilbab, and let her attend the good and the supplication of the believers. She said: When Umm Atiyya arrived, I asked her—or we asked her: Did you hear the Messenger of God ﷺ say such-and-such? She said—and she never mentioned the Messenger of God ﷺ without saying "Biba" (i.e., by my father): Yes, by my father. He said: Let the unmarried women, the secluded ones—or she said: the unmarried women and the secluded ones—and the menstruating women go out, so that they attend the good and the supplication of the believers, while the menstruating women keep away from the prayer place. I said to Umm Atiyya: The menstruating woman? She said: Does she not attend Arafa and attend such-and-such and attend such-and-such?
