✧ 'Uyaynah and al-Aqra' asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for something, and he ordered Mu'awiyah to write it for them. He did so, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sealed it and ordered it to be given to them. As for 'Uyaynah, he said: What is in it? He said: In it is what I ordered. So he kissed it and tied it in his turban, and he was the more judicious of the two men. As for al-Aqra', he said: I carry a document I do not know what is in it, like the document of al-Mutalammis. Mu'awiyah informed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ of their words. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out for a need, and passed by a camel kneeling at the door of the mosque from the beginning of the day, then passed by it at the end of the day and it was still in its state. He said: 'Where is the owner of this camel?' It was sought but not found. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Fear Allah regarding these beasts. Ride them while healthy, and eat them while fat, like one who is displeased just now. Whoever asks while he has what suffices him only increases in the coals of Hell.' They said: O Messenger of Allah, what suffices him? He said: 'What provides his morning or evening meal.'
