✧ While I was leading the Messenger of Allah ﷺ by the reins through one of those mountain passes, he said to me: 'ʿUqbah, will you not ride?' I deemed it disrespectful to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to ride his mount. Then he said: 'ʿUqab, will you not ride?' I feared it would be disobedience. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ dismounted, and I rode for a little while, then he mounted. Then he said: 'ʿUqab, shall I teach you two surahs from the best two surahs that people recite?' I said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He recited to me: 'Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak' and 'Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind.' Then the prayer was called, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went forward and recited them. Then he passed by me and said: 'How do you find it, O ʿUqayb? Recite them whenever you sleep and whenever you rise.'
