✧ A son of Abu Talhah from Umm Sulaym died. She said to her family, 'Do not tell Abu Talhah about his son until I tell him.' He said, 'He came, and she served him supper; he ate and drank.' He said, 'Then she adorned herself for him better than she had ever adorned herself before, and he lay with her. When she saw that he was satisfied and had intercourse with her, she said, "O Abu Talhah, what do you think if a people lent their property to a household and then asked for their property back—do they have the right to withhold it?" He said, "No." She said, "Then seek reward for your son." He went until he came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and told him what had happened. The Messenger of God ﷺ said, "May God bless you both in the remainder of your night." He said, 'She became pregnant.' He said, 'The Messenger of God ﷺ was on a journey and she was with him. Whenever the Messenger of God ﷺ came to Madinah from a journey, he would not enter it at night. When they approached Madinah, labor pains struck her, and Abu Talhah stayed behind with her while the Messenger of God ﷺ went on. Abu Talhah said, "O Lord, You know that I love to go out with Your Messenger when he goes out, and to enter with him when he enters, and I have been detained by what You see." Umm Sulaym said, "O Abu Talhah, I do not feel what I used to feel." So they went on.' He said, 'Labor pains struck her when they arrived, and she gave birth to a boy. My mother said to me, "O Anas, no one should breastfeed him until you take him in the morning to the Messenger of God ﷺ." He said, 'When morning came, I carried him and went with him to the Messenger of God ﷺ. I found him with a branding iron. When he saw me, he said, "Perhaps Umm Sulaym has given birth." I said, "Yes." He put down the branding iron. I brought the child and placed him in his lap. The Messenger of God ﷺ asked for some pressed dates from the dates of Madinah, chewed them in his mouth until they dissolved, then put them in the child's mouth. The child began to smack his lips. The Messenger of God ﷺ said, "Look at the Ansar's love of dates." He wiped his face and named him Abdullah.
