✧ I came to Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, and while I was sitting with him, I heard the movement of something beneath his bed. I looked and saw a snake, so I stood up. Abu Sa'id said: 'What is the matter with you?' I said: 'There is a snake here.' He said: 'What do you want to do?' I said: 'I want to kill it.' He pointed to a room in his house opposite where he was sitting and said: 'A cousin of mine was in this room. On the day of the Confederates, he asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for permission to go to his family, since he was newly married. He gave him permission and ordered him to take his weapon with him. He came to his house and found his wife standing at the door of the room. He pointed at her with his spear, and she said: "Do not be hasty until you see what brought me out." He entered the room and found a monstrous snake. He thrust it with his spear and then came out with it on the spear, writhing. He said: "I do not know which of the two died sooner, the man or the snake." His people came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: "Pray to Allah to restore our companion." He said: "Seek forgiveness for your companion" twice. Then he said: "A group of jinn embraced Islam. If you see one of them, warn it three times. Then, if after that it still appears to you that you should kill it, kill it after the third time."
