حَدَّثَنَا مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ، عَنْ سُهَيْلٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَائِذٍ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ:

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ وَالنَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُصَلِّي لَنَا، فَقَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ آتِنِي خَيْرَ مَا تُؤْتِي الصَّالِحِينَ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: " مَنِ الْمُتَكَلِّمُ آنِفًا ؟ " قَالَ الرَّجُلُ: أَنَا، قَالَ: إِذًا يُعْقَرُ جَوَادُكَ وَتُقْتَلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ

✧ A man came while the Prophet ﷺ was leading us in prayer, and he said: "O God, give me the best of what You give the righteous." When the Messenger of God ﷺ finished, he said: "Who spoke just now?" The man said: "I did." He said: "Then your horse will be hamstrung and you will be killed in the path of God."

Ḥamzah, Khālid b. Khidāsh, Muṣʿab al-Zubayrī and others narrated it from al-Darāwardī, from Suhayl, from Muḥammad b. Muslim b. ʿĀʾidh. But Ḍirār b. Ṣurad and al-Ḥimmānī contradicted them, and narrated it from al-Darāwardī, from Suhayl, and said: from Muslim b. ʿĀʾidh. The first statement is more correct (aṣaḥḥ).
