✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ set out for Makkah to conquer it. He said to Abu Hurayra: O Abu Hurayra, call out to the Ansar. So he said: O company of the Ansar, answer the Messenger of God. They came as if they had an appointment. He said: Take this road, and let no one appear before you except that you put him to sleep, meaning: you kill him. The Messenger of God ﷺ marched and God granted him victory. He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ circumambulated the House and prayed two rak'as, then left through the gate adjacent to al-Safa, climbed al-Safa, and addressed the people while the Ansar were below him. The Ansar said to one another: As for the man, compassion for his people and desire for his town have taken hold of him. Then God Almighty sent down revelation to him about what the Ansar had said. He said: O company of the Ansar, do you say: As for the man, compassion for his people and desire for his town have overtaken him? Then who am I? No, by God, I am the servant of God and His Messenger. Indeed, the living is your living, and the dying is your dying. They said: O Messenger of God, we only said that out of fear that you would leave us. He said: You are truthful before God and before His Messenger. By God, there was not one of them but that his chest was wet with tears from his eyes.
