✧ We were with the Messenger of God ﷺ in the mosque when a man entered and prayed. The Messenger of God ﷺ began watching him. He prayed, then came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and greeted him. The Messenger of God ﷺ returned the greeting and then said: “Go back and pray, for you have not prayed.” He went back and prayed, then came to the Messenger of God and greeted him. The Messenger of God returned the greeting and then said: “Go back and pray, for you have not prayed.” He did that two or three times. Then he said to him on the second or third occasion: “O Messenger of God, I have exerted myself, so teach me and show me.” The Messenger of God ﷺ said to him: “When you intend to pray, perform ablution and do it well, then face the qibla and say the takbir, then recite, then bow until you are at ease in bowing, then rise until you are standing straight, then prostrate until you are at ease in prostration, then rise until you are at ease sitting, then prostrate until you are at ease in prostration, then rise until you are at ease sitting. If you complete your prayer in this manner, you have completed it, and whatever you detract from any of that, you only detract from your prayer.”
