حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ الْقَعْقَاعِ، عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ:

جَلَسَ جِبْرِيلُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، فَنَظَرَ فِي السَّمَاءِ فَإِذَا مَلَكٌ يَنْزِلُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ جِبْرِيلُ: إِنَّ هَذَا الْمَلَكَ مَا نَزَلَ مُذْ خُلِقَ قَبْلَ السَّاعَةِ، فَلَمَّا نَزَلَ، قَالَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ أَرْسَلَنِي إِلَيْكَ رَبُّكَ أَمَلِكًا أَجْعَلُكَ، أَمْ عَبْدًا رَسُولًا ؟ قَالَ لَهُ جِبْرِيلُ: تَوَاضَعْ لِرَبِّكَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ، قَالَ: لَا بَلْ عَبْدًا رَسُولًا

✧ Gabriel sat with the Prophet ﷺ, and he looked at the sky, and behold, an angel was descending. Gabriel said to him: This angel has not descended since he was created before this hour. When he descended, he said: O Muhammad, your Lord has sent me to you: [will He make you] a king, or a servant messenger? Gabriel said to him: Be humble before your Lord, O Muhammad. He said: No, rather a servant messenger.
